[Edit: got the date wrong]

I finally bought new books today! Phew, it seems my reading mojo might come back. Okay, so I only bought two books, but what can I do when the third book I wanted still cost too much at the moment? (A Matter of Class byMary Balogh)

Here’s what I got:

The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook

Seductive danger and steampunk adventure abound in the gritty world of the Iron Seas, where nanotech is fused with Victorian sensibilities — and steam.

After the Iron Duke freed England from Horde control, he instantly became a national hero. Now Rhys Trahaearn has built a merchant empire on the power — and fear — of his name. And when a dead body is dropped from an airship onto his doorstep, bringing Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth into his dangerous world, he intends to make her his next possession.

Mina can’t afford his interest, however. Horde blood runs through her veins, and despite the nanotech enhancing her body, she barely scratches out a living in London society. Becoming Rhys’s lover would destroy both her career and her family, yet the investigation prevents her from avoiding him…and the Iron Duke’s ruthless pursuit makes him difficult to resist.

But when Mina uncovers the victim’s identity, she stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens the lives of everyone in England. To save them, Mina and Rhys must race across zombie-infested wastelands and treacherous oceans — and Mina discovers the danger is not only to her countrymen as she finds herself tempted to give up everything to the Iron Duke.

I love Brook’s Guardian series so I bought this one even though it’s more expensive than I’m usually willing to fork over for a book.

Hot Island Nights by Sarah Mayberry

Elizabeth Morgan didn’t intend to abandon her very proper life. But that’s the best way to find her true — and less proper — self. So here she is in Australia, standing in front of a man who’s clad only in a towel. Nathan Jones is so tempting he could be the ideal candidate to help this good girl be very bad!

Sure enough, thanks to Nathan’s talented hands, Elizabeth is living all her sensual fantasies. And while the sex is great, something more is developing. She trusts him, and wants to share her secrets with him, and… Suddenly this feels more like a real relationship than some fun in the sun. Luckily, there’s a cure for too much commitment — more wickedness!

I usually like her novels a lot so this was more a question of when than if.

~ * * * ~

Yesterday, I wanted to post a few youtube videos of my favorite songs at the moment. But thanks to some rights issues, I couldn’t use the videos I wanted and I didn’t want to link to some low quality vids or videos that didn’t capture what I wanted to show. Songs in question:

  • Bruce Springsteen – Waitin’ on a Sunny Day
I like this one because it’s happy and kind of sad at the same time
  • The Killers – A Dustland Fairytale
I like the lyrics and I think the music and the lyrics fit well together

The Boyfriend and I are going to Vienna tomorrow. We’ll be visiting friends and be back late Tuesday night.

Now we’re off to go to a concert. A friend is playing in a town nearby.

Have a good time.

PS: I read my book for this month’s Re-Read Challenge. Let’s see if I can find the time to write the comment in time.
