Going On Vacation
To Greece!
We will be gone from tomorrow, 06/17, until 07/01.
It took us actually a whole weekend and the following Monday (a religious holiday here, Whit Monday) to decide where to go. We just knew we wanted sun and beach. It also didn’t help that we were already pretty late to book a hotel (this was two weeks ago). But most of all, the internet didn’t help. There was so much information and opinions about the different hotels, really, at the second or third glance everything looked…well, not so good.
On Whit Monday around midday I was so fed up that I
- turned up the volume on my MP3 player and listened to Where Is My Mind? (Pixies) and then It’s My Life (Bon Jovi) and
- emailed a friend to complain how difficult it all is. (I still feel a bit bad about that because it’s such a luxury problem to have.)
I then decided that I was done. All this looking and comparing made my mind really fuzzy. Besides, I’d found a rather nice looking hotel in the morning. Why continue looking for something better when I’d already settled on that in my mind. Thankfully, it turned out to be The Boyfriend’s favorite as well. On Monday evening, we booked that hotel.
So tomorrow, we are off to Greece for a two week long vacation. Greece is the dark green area on the map. The lighter green areas are the other EU states, the dark gray areas are European countries not in the EU (date: June, 2007).
We’re going to the Greek Island Kos (red area on the map to the right) which is so close to Turkey that you can actually see the Turkish coastline from the eastern part of the island. Kos is also the home of Hippocrates, the “father of medicine.” It will be pretty hot already so we won’t be doing a lot of exploring, I think. Mostly relaxing at the pool/beach. And reading, of course.
I’ve scheduled my posts for the blog challenges but I’m not sure if I’ll have time or opportunity to check if there are any comments. As I’m feeling pretty meh about blogging again at the moment, I think this break will do me good. Maybe there even will be some changes after I’m back.
Possible Vacation Reads
Because we decided so late, I couldn’t order new books for our vacation. I have to order all my English books online, and they usually take between one up to four weeks to get here so I wasn’t sure if I would get them in time. Big Bummer, especially because I had quite a list of books I wanted! Luckily, I found two books that were in stock and which I (kind of) wanted. So I bought them, and for the rest I just have to make do with what I’ve got already. I’m still not sure which books I’ll take.

I also have Karen Marie Moning’s Darkfever as an audiobook on my MP3 player.

Woohoo, Taja! Have fun during your vacation!!
Greece, it sounds awesome
Now, with the internet, comparing stuff is so easy… but it really does make things more difficult. Ah well, at least, you decided on something
I have a friend who just came back from Greece this week-end. She said it was really hot, so enjoy the beach!
Going to miss you!
Oh, and I hope you enjoy Stolen!
Nath – thanks! Especially for saying you’re going to miss me.
Everybody tells us that it’ll be really hot in Greece. LOL We would have prefered May, too, really. But it didn’t work out that way. Oh well, it’s our first long vacation in several years and we’re so looking forward to it. Heat or no heat!
Though I’m dreading to check my feed reader when I’ll be back. LOL
PS: It’s funny, I’m really looking forward to reading Stolen.
Have a wonderful vacation, Taja! I’ll be thinking of you sitting by the pool or on the beach completely relaxed. A drink in one hand, a great book in the other. After you finish your drink, you’ll feel sleepy and the book will slide out of your hands as you fall asleep. After your little nap, you and The Boyfriend will get ready for a relaxing dinner. Maybe some dancing or a nice walk under the stars. Oh heck. I need a vacation, too! LOL!
Enjoy!
…. I’ll miss you!
Christine – awwwh, thanks! *hugs*
